KIM NAVER

Designers-kim-naver

Kim Naver is a Danish textile artist whose work bridges the clarity of modern design with the tactile depth of handcraft. Trained in the workshops of Lis Ahlmann and Vibeke Klint, she belongs to a generation that transformed weaving into a modern language of structure, restraint, and quiet material beauty. Her textiles – woven for both industry and unique commissions – reflect a precise balance between order and spontaneity, discipline and sensitivity.

Born in 1940, Naver established her own studio in Copenhagen in 1966 while designing for Cotil, where she developed fabrics for domestic interiors and public architecture. Early recognition came with the Cotil Prize in 1969 and the Lunning Prize in 1970. Over the following decades she created major textile installations for Arne Jacobsen’s National Bank, Jelling Church, and numerous civic spaces, as well as designs for Georg Jensen Damask, Kvadrat, and Linie Design.

Naver’s philosophy, shaped by her early apprenticeships, holds that true quality arises from patience, precision, and respect for materials. Through weaving, teaching, and collaboration, she has sustained the Danish craft tradition as a living, evolving discipline – measured, enduring, and profoundly humane.
