DANISH FURNITURE DESIGNER
Furniture designer Jakob Thau was born in Sweden and raised in Denmark. Training as a furniture designer and cabinetmaker, he studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Design, from which he also received a master’s degree in 2008. In 2006, he established Jakob Thau Studio in Copenhagen while enrolled at the School of Design.
Thau is known for his timeless, traditional woodworking forms as well as his explorations with new materials. Across his work, Thau designs forms that are beautiful, functional, and visionary, often balancing the traditional with the unusual.
As part of the design duo Thau & Kallio, Thau collaborates with Finnish designer and cabinetmaker Sam Kallio. Every prototype they produce is tested by the designers themselves, both expert craftsmen. Inspired by the flow of people around them, the duo designs and produces furniture at the highest level of quality, with the intent that it ages beautifully and is passed down through generations.
