Eames Lights Up:
A Pilgrimage of Light
Eames Lights Up is a unique publication documenting an extraordinary journey of research and discovery by Form Portfolios. This exploration took Form Portfolios across the United States, tracing the legacy of Charles and Ray Eames through the spaces and structures that bear their creative imprint. From the sacred light of churches to the mathematical precision of Mathematica: A World of Numbers... and Beyond at the California Museum of Science and Industry in Los Angeles, this pilgrimage unearthed the lesser-known history of Eames-designed lighting.
Central to this journey was the revival of Helena, a luminous 1934 creation by Charles Eames for St. Mary’s Church. A delicate balance of blown-glass and perforated aluminum, Helena radiates an ethereal glow, a testament to Eames' early explorations in form and function. In collaboration with the Eames Office and Cassina, Form Portfolios meticulously reintroduced this long-forgotten design, illuminating the intersection of history, innovation, and timeless design.
Eames Lights Up is more than a book; it is a testament to the enduring power of timeless design and the relentless pursuit of a light nearly forgotten.
