GAMFRATESI

Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi are the design duo behind the furniture brand GamFratesi. Gam, born in Copenhagen in 1975, pursued furniture design at the Aarhus School of Architecture, graduating in 2006. Fratesi, born in Pesaro, Italy in 1978, studied industrial design at the University of Florence and the University of Ferrara, graduating in 2007. After meeting in 2004 while Gam was studying in Italy, they moved to Copenhagen and established GamFratesi in 2006.
Their backgrounds in multiple design traditions enable the pair to experiment with new and traditional approaches, drawing on the classic Danish style and the Italian conceptual and intellectual approach to design. The meeting of these influences is a constant inspiration for both designers. Respectful of the tradition of Scandinavian craftsmanship and functionalism, they are able to experiment with symbols and stories, often exploring the tension between harmony and disharmony. Among their designs is the Beetle Chair, which draws inspiration from its namesake insect.
In 2013, GamFratesi was honored with the Elle Decoration International Design Award (EDIDA) as International Young Designer of the Year. Their work has been shown around the world, from La Triennale di Milano, Design Museum Denmark in Copenhagen, the Royal Danish Embassy in Tokyo and Art Basel in Miami.
